Knox Road forms part of the outer-ring road of Blacktown connecting motorists from Sunnyholt Road through to the Great Western Highway, Quakers Hill Parkway, Knox Road and Doonside Road.
“Knox Road has been a long and staged project for Council. This last stage between Cross Street and Eastern Road was the most significant and completes the overall project with the entire road a four lane divided road”, Clr Robinson said.
This project will have significant economic benefits for Blacktown and Western Sydney. Blacktown has almost 3200 hectares of employment land.
About half of this land has been developed. Better connectivity to these employment areas is the catalyst for new investment to strengthen Blacktown’s economy.
It will help provide more employment, particularly in traditional industry sectors of manufacturing, wholesale trade, and transport and logistics.
The final stage of the Knox Road project involved a significant amount of work and coordination to expand the bridge across the western railway line.
A single span bridge built from prestressed Super T planks, was installed over one weekend as it required the western railway line between Doonside and Rooty Hill to be closed.
The embankments approaching the bridge consist of approximately 65,000 cubic metres of fill material including the reconstruction of the “reinforced earth” retaining walls.
“This project and particularly the duplication of the bridge was a significant civil engineering project for our city. I congratulate Council’s engineers on their management and administration of this project”, Clr Robinson said.
