Land shrouded in mystery for a long time

IF you, any of your family member or a friend planning a trip to Africa, a must see place in the African continent is Ethiopia.

Ethiopia is a land which had been shrouded in mystery for a long time. It is the first country in Africa to come in contact with the three main religions of the region, namely Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

Ethiopia is the largest landlocked country in the world. When visiting Ethiopia your first choice must to see Addis Ababa the highest and coolest capital in Africa.

Ethiopian Airlines can take you there from any major cities in the world. The airline is also planning direct flights to Ethiopia from Melbourne, Australia from mid next year. Talks are still underway between Australian and Ethiopian aviation officials.

The capital has its new and old sections. Some of the finest Italian Architecture can be observed in the older parts of the city.

While in the city don’t fail to visit the national museum where the evidence of the oldest human remains are displayed.  An interesting feature of Addis is the Khat market, where bundles of this habit forming leaves are sold to be transported to a number countries in the region.

Local cuisine is at its best in the Addis. The most popular food is the Injera (local flat bread) served with Wat (Stew), made of meats or vegetables. Incidentally, Ethiopia is the birth place of the coffee bean.

With a population of 92 million people Ethiopia is the second largest country in Africa, with many languages. Ahmaric and Oromo are the mainly spoken languages with Ahmaric being the official language. The alphabet which is called geez is one of the oldest in the world.  Experts say it is very similar to the Armenian script.

LALIBELA is situated in the Northern Ethiopia which is one of the holiest places in the country with several churches. Its main feature is a Monolithic Rock cut church.  It is an architectural wonder. Do not forget to add a few historical forts to see in your list to visit.

If you love natural features, Tis Abay (smoking water) falls on the Blue Nile which is the source of the bulk of the water making the great river Nile. The best time to observe this is just after the rainy season when it is at its majestic best.

There are many more scenic views which your local guide can recommend.  Speak to one of the Travel Expert at Elite Travel to find out more about the places to visit.
