Push to make cafes responsible
COFFEE drinkers across Parramatta city are being encouraged to help the environment and keep the change when they head to their favourite café for a daily fix of caffeine.

The city is the proud home to a growing number of Responsible Cafés – restaurants and coffee shops helping to reduce litter and landfill by offering discounts to customers who bring their own re-useable cups.
“It’s wonderful to see so many local businesses joining a movement to keep our streets clean and cut down on waste – and we want to see more cafés sign up,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said.
Across the Parramatta local government area 18 businesses are already members, joining an estimated 3,500 cafes around the country.
“Resident coffee lovers can make a difference too. Take a re-useable cup to your local café next time you head there for your caffeine fix and ask them to become a Responsible Café,” Cr Wilson said.
“The movement is a win-win for everybody. Coffee drinkers save money, our local cafés cut down on disposable cups, and as a city we generate less waste which is better for our environment.”
More than three billion takeaway coffee cups and lids are used every year in Australia, according to the not-for-profit Responsible Cafés movement. Most are not recycled.
