Don’t get me wrong, we love it, ha ha - and wouldn’t have it any other way but the organising gets exhausting.
What we’d really like is a little reset. A hotel stay, perhaps with you or without you (we still love you) where everything is in one place and we don’t have to leave unless we feel like it.
We can run a bath, make a cup of tea, order room service and stay in bed watching movies. Or, if the mood strikes, we’ll dress up, head downstairs and enjoy a glass of bubbles or high tea. Just having someone cook for us with no washing up - that’s the Mother’s Day dream, right there.
A staycation hotel is such an easy win. It’s a simple ‘click to book’ gift that doesn’t require overthinking and it will absolutely put you in the good books.
Sofitel Melbourne On Collins is offering a special Mother’s Day weekend, with options for Saturday or Sunday lunch at No35 Restaurant, 35 floors up, overlooking the river and the bay or a high tea buffet at Sofi’s Lounge. It’s indulgent, elevated, and exactly the kind of treat we’re talking about.
What makes Sofitel Melbourne a standout is that it’s a true luxury hotel, something a little different for families who are more used to squeezing into family accommodation, trading space for family luggage or cooking in accommodation to keep costs down.
Here, it’s all about room to breathe, city views, and a location in Melbourne’s theatre and shopping district. For locals, it’s an effortless staycation, for interstate visitors, it’s an easy flight with the SkyBus running regularly from Tullamarine into the city.
Best of all, nobody is rushing us out the door for first lifts. It’s a genuine break from the usual pace of holidays, where we’re often still organising, cooking or driving.
Meals at No35 are fresh, seasonal and thoughtfully sourced. Start with Le Menu du Chef and choose Gnocchi Aux Champignons, Côte De Boef, poisson du Marché or delicious Confit de Canard. Pomme de Terre Grenaille, Legumes de Saison or Salad D’Endives.
Indulge in the timeless ritual of High Tea, where elegant tiers of sweet and savoury delights and a perfectly brewed pot of tea redefine what everyday luxury can feel like. This is about putting something back in the tank, as mothers. Slow mornings, long baths, movies, tea, French bubbles.
Wake late and take in the view over breakfast, smoked salmon with Yarra Valley feta, poached eggs with Boston Ham, flaky croissants then take up space in the gymnasium’s massage chair.
It’s a reset that asks nothing of us for a night or two, but gives everything back. And if we come home recharged? We ‘might’ return the favour and let you sneak off for a reset yourself.
But let’s be honest… you’re not going anywhere without us!
