Hawkesbury Mayor Cr Kim Ford recently met with the performers of Michael Edgley’s Great Moscow Circus and representatives from Rotary, Mind Blank and Paint Hawkesbury REaD to commend their joint efforts in raising funds for local community projects.
“Michael Edgley’s Great Moscow Circus will leave behind many happy memories for the Hawkesbury residents and visitors who joined the circus for a show,” Councillor Ford said.
“My sincere thanks go to Michael Edgley’s Great Moscow Circus for thinking of such a positive way to help the Hawkesbury by donating 500 tickets. My congratulations also go to the charities for being so organised and selling all the donated tickets.”
Proceeds from 300 tickets were donated to the Rotary Club of Kurrajong and North Richmond in partnership with Western Sydney Suicide Prevention and Support Group. The $7,500 will be used to provide the Mind Blank theatre experience free to every high school in the Hawkesbury with innovative mental health education.
Paint Hawkesbury REaD sold 200 charity tickets. The $5,000 raised will support an innovative early literacy community scheme that encourages the whole community to read, talk, sing and rhyme with children from birth, so that they will be ready for reading and writing at school.
Chair of the Western Sydney Suicide Prevention and Support Group, Peter Webb praised the support shown from Council and the Great Moscow Circus.
“This support highlights the community’s willingness to embrace and support suicide prevention programs,” Mr Webb said.
