“Centenary Square is now a lively, exciting and safe place that connects our famous ‘Eat Street’ food and dining precinct to one of Sydney’s biggest and most convenient transport interchanges,” Cr Chedid said.
“The $5 million transformation has delivered new spaces to allow for more entertainment and events in our City.
“This area is an iconic meeting place and I encourage workers, residents and visitors to enjoy the new space.
X-factor stars Jason Heerah and Rochelle Pitt performed at the opening, along with children’s band Lah- Lah and Darren Percival who was also the MC for the event.
Restoration works of Centenary Square also included new, modern street furniture, an upgrade of public amenities, new paving, a new lighting feature projected on to Town Hall and restoration of the Centennial Memorial Drinking Fountain and clock back to working condition.
The revitalised precinct will also offer enhanced street lighting, CCTV and more open areas for outdoor events. Council is pleased to deliver a vibrant, exciting and safe precinct for locals, workers and visitors to enjoy.
