WESTERN SYDNEY'S VERY SPECIAL RACE

Big crowd expected at Rosehill Gardens
ELIZABETH FRIAS
THIS Saturday’s $10M James Squire Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens will see five entries from the stables of Western Sydney trainer, Chris Waller pounding the 1500 metre track with prizemoney going to charity.

Kovalica, Rediener, Age of Kings, Vienna Princess and Osipenko in the final field listing will be presented to the media and spectators by Waller at Rosehill ahead of the expected massive race day themed gold this year, and Waller calling it Western Sydney’s “very special race”.

“To have something like this in Western Sydney, as I am from here and where I train [my horses], it’s our own so it’s very special,” Waller said in the Racing NSW promotional video of this weekend’s race.

It will be a lucrative win with $1M going to the winners’ chosen charities they will announce on the day and Waller expects a “massive crowd” coming through the gates, Waller said.

“It’s time for racing to shine in Western Sydney…it’s brilliant,” the Kiwi who came to try his luck in Australia’s horseracing industry in 1998 said.

Best known as superb Winx’s trainer, Waller is putting the stakes on the five horses he has trained over time for Sydney’s second richest race, hoping there is another win to add to his over 4,000 races with wins and 142 Group 1 wins in his current career record.

His latest winning horse is Fangirl at Randwick Royal Racecourse’s inaugural King Charles III Stakes with a $5M prizemoney.
