Olympic Park confidence soars

MORE than $1 billion of development projects have been approved at Sydney Olympic Park since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, according to the Sydney Olympic Park Authority's 2009-10 annual report

"This demonstrates the business community’s confidence in the future of the park," the report said

During 2009-10, the park attracted 900,000 business visitors who attended more than 2100 business events, which generated over $20 million dollars of revenue in the financial year.

Construction started on the park's first residential development, Australia Towers, with more than 90 per cent of apartments in stage 1 being sold with occupancy still 18 months away.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show, the largest annual event in the southern hemisphere, attracts an average of 900,000 visitors over the two-week event, generated economic benefits in the order of $500 million per annum.

Highlights of the 2009-10 years included:

1) 9.5 million visitors, with 26 days in which 50,000 or more people visited the park, including two days with more than 100,000 people.

3) Acer Arena consistently rated in the top three or four most successful indoor arenas in the world, together with New York's Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall and London's O2 Arena

Under its master plan 2030, SOPA will manage the expansion of the park to support a daily population of 50,000 and including up to 20,000 daily visitors.

SOPA is responsible for promoting, coordinating and managing the orderly use and economic development of Sydney Olympic Park, including the provision and management of $1.8 billion of infrastructure.
