Weekend of global film making starts here

CREATIVE and passionate filmmakers from around the world are invited to devote one weekend and make a short EcoFilm that focus on an ‘EcoTheme’ about our planet.

The film initiative, developed in Australia in partnership with 48 Hour Film Project Inc, USA, is supported by NRMA Motoring and Services.

“The EcoFilm Fest has been developing in Parramatta over the past two years and, in the process, we created a real focus that challenges filmmakers”, says Tom Papas, Festival Director.

“This year, we are going global and have chosen a theme that impacts everyone in everyday life. The EcoTheme in 2013 is Sustainable Transport”.

The official 48 Hour Time Period starts Friday , May 24 at 7.00 pm. Entrants around the world receive an e¬mail or SMS indicating their  randomly allocated elements, including  subject, character, prop and line of dialogue that must be included in their 47 minute film.

Filmmakers then write, shoot, edit, produce and begin uploading their EcoFilm by Sunday, May 26 by 7pm. This year’s judging panel is headed by renowned Hollywood producer Andrew Sugerman, who has been involved in the production of many films over the past 30 years.

Also gracing the judging panel is Ken Stewart, award winning writer, producer, director, former senior creative marketing executive at Paramount Pictures and Columbia Pictures.

On Friday, July 19 the EcoFilm Awards will celebrate global ecodiversity by screening the EcoFilm finalists at the Riverside Theatres in Parramatta, Australia.

There are cash prizes of $12,500, which includes the Parramatta Prize for Inspiring Change valued at $3,000. A cash prize of  $5,000 will be awarded to the world’s Best NRMA Motoring and Services EcoFilm.

Parramatta Lord Mayor, Councillor John Chedid, said that Parramatta City Council was proud to be a major sponsor of the EcoFilm Fest.

“As Sydney’s premier regional city, Parramatta is very conscious of the need for sustainable transport options, which is why we’re so pleased to be able to support such a worthwhile event,” Cr Chedid said.

Mark Ruppert, President 48 Hour Film Project Inc, USA says: “This is an exciting initiative which encourages filmmakers of all ages to work together to raise awareness of the challenges transport presents, through the very accessible and entertaining medium of film”.
