$2.6B FOR WESTERN SYDNEY ROADS

Which major projects benefit?
MORE than $2.6B over the next four years will be allocated for road projects across Western and South West Sydney.

The multi-billion dollar allocation has been set aside for work associated with key projects, with more than $780M to be spent in 2018-19.

The funding covers planning and construction for works on Bringelly Road, The Northern Road and Campbelltown Road as well as an allocation for the $470 million M4 Smart Motorway.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the 2018-19 Budget was about investing in projects that uplift communities and the economy.

“These projects will improve traffic flow and road safety and boost productivity across Western Sydney which is great for people who live in this booming part of our great city,” Mr Perrottet said.

Minister for Roads Melinda Pavey said Henry Lawson Drive between the M5 at Milperra and the Hume Highway at Lansdowne is generally one lane in each direction and experiences significant congestion during peak hours.

“The first stage involves widening Henry Lawson Drive from two lanes to four lanes, for 2.2 kilometres between Milperra Road and the M5 Motorway, including intersection upgrades and bridge work,“ said Mrs Pavey.

“Henry Lawson Drive is a strategic route near the M5 Motorway making this announcement very good news for the local community who tackle high traffic volumes and congestion on a daily basis.

“The project will play a key role in facilitating growth along the corridor including the proposed redevelopment of the Bankstown Airport Precinct.

This project will expand traffic capacity by increasing the number of lanes, improving traffic flow, travel times and safety for all road users.”
