Ita celebrates International Womens Day in GWS

AUSTRALIAN of the Year 2013, Ita Buttrose AO OBE, joined 260 business women from across Western Sydney on  March 7 at the Coleman Greig Women in Business Forum.

The event was held in celebration of International Women’s Day at the stunning Oatlands House.

Her inspiring speech on both the struggles and successes of being a woman in the workplace resounded with the Women in Business Members in the room.

“The thinking that got us to where we are today, is not the thinking we need for the future” said Ms Buttrose, as she spoke about how far women still have to go in this journey.

“By not encouraging women, hiring women into positions of authority and having women on its boards, it is Australia that is missing out.”

Ita Buttrose AO, OBE has enjoyed an extensive career in print, radio and television. She has edited leading magazines and newspapers including the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph, Sun-Herald, The Australian Women’s Weekly, Cleo and ITA.

She is national president of Alzheimer’s Australia, patron of the Macular Degeneration Foundation and Vice President Emeritus of Arthritis Australia, having previously served as president and national spokesperson.

The Women in Business forum also uses each event as an opportunity to raise money for charity and give back to the community. The event raised close to $9000 for Alzheimer’s Australia.
