Australia’s first 5G fixed wireless network

VISITORS to Parramatta’s CBD will be able to surf the net around the clock at speeds greater than any other wireless network in Australia.

Parramatta Lord Mayor, Cr John Chedid has launched the City’s Free Wi-Fi network – Australia’s first 5G fixed wireless network – with members of the ParraConnect Advisory Committee.

5G is the latest generation of wireless technology, which is three times faster than the current 4G technology.

“Parramatta City Council is proud to be delivering this service to our residents, workers and visitors. It is part of our commitment to making Parramatta one of Australia’s leading smart cities,” Cr Chedid said.

“The new service will allow people to check their emails, read the news or surf the net around the clock in the heart of the City’s CBD; along Church Street, from Riverside Theatres to Westfield and parts of Macquarie Street.

“At speeds of up to 100 megabits per second, we’ll be offering the fastest wireless network speeds in Australia,” Cr Chedid said.

The Parramatta free Wi-Fi service can be accessed for free for up to 30-minutes each day on any Wi-Fi enabled device including laptops, smart phones and tablets. Beyond the time limit, users can sign up to W3, the internet service provider, for continuous access.

Parramatta City Council also offers free Wi-Fi at its libraries and along the Parramatta River foreshore.
