“The Judges are a welcome addition to the Family Court at Parramatta,” Ms Owens said. “Their appointment comes as a relief to many clients and legal practitioners who want to see more cases heard in the Family Registry at Parramatta.

“Having more matters heard in Parramatta is a win for local families and for people across Western Sydney, who might otherwise have to travel to the Sydney Registry for their cases.

Ms Owens said local family lawyers have been seeking commitments that judges will be appointed to hear new cases at Parramatta. The new appointments are:

• Judge Garry Foster, a Judge of the Federal Circuit Court, who will be appointed to the Parramatta Registry effective from, August 8 2013;

• Northern Territory Chief Magistrate Hilary Hannam, who will be appointed to the Parramatta Registry effective from August 13, 2013.
