PARRAMATTA ELECTS NEW MAYOR

Bob Dwyer: Mayor, Michelle Garrard: Deputy
CITY of Parramatta Council has elected Councillor Bob Dwyer as its new Lord Mayor with Councillor Michelle Garrard appointed as Deputy Lord Mayor at a Council Meeting this evening.

Councillor Dwyer, a representative of the North Rocks Ward, has served on City of Parramatta Council since 2016, and prior to that on the former Parramatta City Council for a total of eight years.

Councillor Dwyer, a Liberal Party member, and Councillor Garrard of the Our Local Community Party will hold their positions for the next 12 months until the Local Government elections in September next year.

“I am honoured to have been elected Lord Mayor and would like to thank my colleagues for placing their confidence in me to fulfil this position. As an elected representative of the people of Parramatta, I look forward to working hard to deliver the services and infrastructure the City needs to support its residents, now and into the future,” Cr Dwyer said.

“With massive growth and development under way in Parramatta, we as Councillors have an enormous responsibility to ensure these changes are in the best interests of the community, while helping cement Parramatta as Sydney’s Central City.

“Parramatta Square, the new Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Parramatta Light Rail and the Powerhouse Precinct are just some of the key projects that are in various stages of planning and development in our fast-growing City. This significant infrastructure will bring huge opportunities and benefits to the local community, including jobs, economic rewards and investment.”

City of Parramatta CEO Brett Newman said he looked forward to working with Cr Dwyer to ensure Council continues to deliver the best outcomes for the community.

“Congratulations to Cr Dwyer on his election as Lord Mayor of the City of Parramatta. By working side-by-side, I believe we can achieve great outcomes for our City and its residents,” Mr Newman said.
