Peter Shergold reappointed Western Sydney University Chancellor

WESTERN Sydney University has announced that Professor Peter Shergold AC, will continue as the University’s Chancellor until the end of 2020.

Professor Shergold was first appointed as Chancellor in January 2011. Following a meeting of the Board of Trustees on April 6 the Board unanimously resolved to reappoint Professor Shergold for a further four-year term.

A former secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Professor Shergold’s career in the public service spanned two decades. 

In addition to his role at Western Sydney University, Professor Shergold is also the NSW Coordinator-General for Refugee Resettlement, as well as serving as a non-executive director, Chair and member of a number of corporate and non-profit boards.

Professor Barney Glover, Vice-Chancellor of Western Sydney University, welcomed the reappointment of Professor Shergold.

“Professor Shergold’s exemplary leadership of the Board over the last five years has significantly contributed to the growth of this University. He believes passionately in the transformative power of education, and understands the University’s unique role to serve the communities of Western Sydney,” said Professor Glover.

“As the University embarks on the next stage of its development, we are delighted to have Professor Shergold continue as Chancellor, and benefit from his knowledge and experience.”

The University’s Board also resolved to appoint former Partner and General Counsel of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Elizabeth Dibbs, as Deputy Chancellor. Ms Dibbs replaces retiring Board member and Deputy Chancellor, Gillian Shadwick. 

Goldman Sachs’ Managing Director of Asia Special Situations Group, Genevieve Gregor, has been appointed as Pro Chancellor.
