Launch of Ron Mulock Memoirs draws a big audience

PENRITH Mayor Karen McKeown recently launched a new book called Inside the Wran Era: The Ron Mulock Memoirs to a packed gallery of family and guests.

The Civic Centre was the venue for the launch, which Mark Mulock, son of the late Ron, described as “fitting”.

Guests included former Premier Barry O’Farrell, Malcom Kerr OAM, Richard Amery along with several political colleagues and leading barristers.

Cr McKeown said the calibre of those who attended was a testament to Mr Mulock and the high esteem in which he is held.

“Ron was never about doing things for Ron,” Cr McKeown said. “Ron had genuine concern for ordinary people, championed social justice and was a passionate advocate for Western Sydney.”

As Mayor of Penrith, State Member for Penrith and later St Marys and in his Ministerial roles, Mr Mulock fashioned good and productive change.

He was the only Minister since federation to have consecutively held the major portfolios of Education, Health and Transport and included time as Deputy Premier and finally as Attorney General.

“Ron was known for not only the big things he achieved but also the many little things. It was this quality that drew so many people to him, that made him such a great family man and that underpinned his outstanding political achievements and reforms,” Cr McKeown said.
