MEDICINAL CANNABIS TRIALS START

Production at high-security facility
THE first research production trials of medicinal cannabis in NSW have begun as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to support the safe supply of high-quality medical products to patients.

Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall recently toured a high-security facility in rural NSW where the research production trials are taking place.

Mr Marshall said the research would fill critical knowledge gaps about growing cannabis for medicinal purposes in local conditions.

“The NSW Government was the first in Australia to receive authorisation from the Commonwealth to cultivate medicinal cannabis for research purposes,” Mr Marshall said.

“The research is being conducted at anew $2million, state-of-the-art facility in a high security location in rural NSW and will be conducted in accordance with strict provisions and regulations set by the Commonwealth Government.”

The NSW Government’s research program will involve eight high-value lines of legal medicinal cannabis accessed through industry collaborator, Cann Group Limited.

“Our aim is to determine the best growing conditions to produce the safest and most useful crops for patients,” Mr Marshall said.

“Another focus will be developing practices to ensure crops are produced throughout the year with consistent levels of therapeutic compounds.”

The NSW Government is committed to developing a better understanding of the therapeutic potential of cannabis medicines and has invested $21M to build the evidence base, including over $9M in clinical trials as well as contributing $1M towards this research.”

Western Sydney based, Precision Metal Group (PMG) is at the forefront of developing Australia’s first large scale legalised cannabis production facilities.

The award-winning engineering firm is developing a world-first fully automated growing system which it plans to implement with leading medicinal cannabis cultivation companies.
