The army, which has operated from a number of locations since arriving in the Parramatta 132 years ago, bought the new premises, at 426 Church Street
The building, occupied by office and retail tenants, with a 90-space car park, was sold on behalf of a private family based in Gordon, on the North Shore.
The relocation follows the sale of the army’s three buildings, on the corner of 93-95 Phillip Street and 32 Smith Street, which were struggling to meet the needs of the community.
“This has been a tough decision [to sell] as there are a lot of memories attached to the property [which] was bought and paid for by the efforts of the local Salvos in the 60s, many of whom still attend,” the Salvation Army's Major Grant Sandercock-Brown said.
“We believe that the purchase will enable us to continue, and indeed grow, our ministry in Western Sydney."
The GPT Group purchased the aging buildings for about $31.2M late last year.
GPT is in the process of preparing the development approval for a $230 million, 20 storeys-plus commercial and cultural centre, for what will be the group’s entrance into the Parramatta CBD office market.
The Fender Katsalidis-designed tower could feature a ground level “urban room” event space, an elevated podium terrace facing the Parramatta River and a tree covered sky deck with district views.
The Property Council of Australia’s office market report notes a zero vacancy rate for A-grade office space in the Parramatta CBD, in the first six months of 2017.
