The Expo is a great way for people who are starting their career or planning a career path to learn more about the types of skills needed to work in a particular industry or profession. It is also an opportunity to get to know what kind of specific training is required to gain employment within a certain industry.

The Expo offers hands on experience in the fields of:
•    Automotive (electrical, mechanical, panel beating, spray painting).
•    Construction (bricklaying, carpentry, electrical, landscaping, plumbing, signage).
•    Client Services (animal care, beauty care, child care, floristry, hairdressing).
•    Hospitality (butchery, cookery, food and beverage, retail baking).
•    Information Technology and Creative Arts (design, web design, IT).
•    Metals and Engineering (electro-technology, fitting, sheet metal, turning, welding).
•    Rural Trades (blacksmith, farriery).
•    Transport and Logistics.  

Last year more than 1500 people attended the Western Sydney Try ‘A’ Skill Expo from over 40 schools.

“We know it can be difficult to find out what job a person is best suited too. This Expo gives our young people a way to gauge for themselves what a particularly job might be like in practice,” said Sharon Kerr, TAFE New South Wales Western Sydney Institute.ff

“Opportunities like this that may help shape the future career path of a young person. We encourage people who want to learn and develop their career path to come to the Try ‘A’ Skill because it could lead to a fulfilling career”.

Blacktown City Mayor, Councillor Len Robinson is a big supporter of the Expo. “There is a skills and employment gap in Blacktown City and Western Sydney that needs to be addressed. Therefore the focus must and should always lead with youth.”
