SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Activities to keep kids amused

By Di Bartok

IF you are working over the Christmas school holidays in Parramatta, there are plenty of activities to keep your kids amused.

The Parramatta Council school holiday program is not only for children living in the LGA.

It also caters for city workers who like the idea of having their for your kids close to work, so they don’t have to do the mad rush to their area after work.

Lord Mayor Scott Lloyd said the program caters to local families looking for affordable activities that are fun, entertaining and educational.

“Getting your kids involved in the holiday program is a great way for them to get outdoors and learn something new or indulge their creative senses while making new friends,” Clr Lloyd said.

“Kids can paint with light at Parramatta Artists Studios, discover bugs, magic and craft at their local library, have a go at rock climbing or zumba dancing or make a splash at one of our swimming centres with the Dolphins Swim School.

“We‘ve also transformed the Parramatta River foreshore into an activity park with floating zorb balls, row boat hire and bike hire as well as a packed program of free workshops and performances.”

Children can learn to bowl, bat and catch on January 15 and 21, 9am to 11am, at the Cricket NSW Holiday Clinic or score a goal at the Introduction to Football Clinic with Granville Rage FC.

Those interested in discovering natural bushland can enjoy a night nature walk at Gallaringi Reserve, Carlingford on January 19, while those wishing to shake it up can try the Dance and Zumbatomic workshops at Dance2Music Australia on January 13 and 20.

Children and teens aged from 12-18 years can enjoy Granville Youth and Community Recreation Centre’s activities with a ‘plant to plate’ workshop at the new community garden or cool down and chill out with a day trip to Freshwater Beach.

Parents with younger children can also head to their local library, with many fun and free activities for kids of all ages including basket weaving, mime and theatre workshops and an Anime movie afternoon.

Council’s School Holiday Program starts on January 7 and runs to January 27. Online enrolment for activities opens on Monday 15 December at 9.30am. For more information and to enrol visit www.parracity.nsw.gov.au/school_holidays
