TRENDS: Businesses focus on interpersonal skills

As Australian businesses launch into their 2013 plans the trending in corporate training reflects a country focussed on leadership, enhancing interpersonal relationships and achieving growth through sales and effective leadership.

According to national corporate training firm, PD Training, aggregate demand across Brisbane, Sydney, Western Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth show the following current trends:

• Retail investment up – specifically in sales and management training: up 30%.

• Other notable fluctuations reflecting the economic climate is increased training as part of redundancy or replacement initiatives up 40%, and a decline in government spending – around 25%.

• Topics showing greatest demand increase in 2013 (compared to the same time last year) are Emotional Intelligence and Communicating Across Cultures – reflecting the need to improve relationships – both internally and with external customers, along with Leadership, Supervision and Sales training.

Managing director, Paul Findlay said the popularity of these courses demonstrated a goal to achieve the greatest productivity and return per staff member.
