Boom times for GWS housing approvals

THE Liverpool, Parramatta and The Hills local government areas accounted for the highest number of housing approvals in Western Sydney for the period July-December 2013.

Liverpool recorded 1306 approvals, Parramatta, 1304 and The Hills, 1181, accounting for 3,791 approvals, or 39.6 per cent of the regional total.

Close behind were Blacktown and Penrith with 1073 and 940 approvals respectively.

The Western Sydney total of 9,564 approvals was 46.8 per cent of the metropolitan figure, according to the latest statistics by the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

Sydney’s newest suburb, the 55-hectare Bungarribee, locally known as Bunya, was developed by UrbanGrowth NSW, is on the former Overseas Telecommunication area, at Doonside.

The suburb, which will house more than 3,000 residents, is nearing completion three years ahead of schedule, the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Brad Hazzard, said.

“It’s boom time in Bunya, in Western Sydney, as up to 800 families build their new homes, and it’s great to see that one in three families are first home buyers,” he said.

“Western Sydney housing is selling like hotcakes and Bunya is leading the charge.”

House and land prices have ranged from around $525,000 for a 400-square-metre lot to $630,000 for a 600-square metre lot, Mr Hazzard said.
