NORTH WEST METRO FREE THIS SUNDAY

Turn-up-and-go rail open to public
PREMIER Gladys Berejiklian and Transport Minister Andrew Constance have announced travel on the new North West Metro will be free this Sunday (May 26), when the turn-up-and-go rail line opens to the public.
“I am so excited Australia’s first driverless metro is about to open and as a big thank you to the community the NSW Government will be offering free travel between Tallawong and Chatswood metro stations on Sunday,” Ms Berejiklian said.

“The Opal gates at all 13 North West Metro stations will be staying open all day, so there will be no need for customers to tap on and off.

“This will allow even more people to bring their family and friends to Sydney’s North West to check out the turn-up-and-go service which will be running every four minutes during the peak.”

Mr Constance said all North West Metro stations will open to the public just after 11am on Sunday and the last Metro train will leave Chatswood at 10.05pm and Tallawong at 9.35pm.

“We expect large crowds to come and see this amazing feat of engineering so we ask people to expect queues and large crowds, and spread their trips across the entire day,” Mr Constance said.

“There will be buses stationed around the network to support the Metro as we bed in the new service, and more than 150 staff working in the field across the North West Metro line, at stations, roads and bus stops to help customers get around the network.”

Customers travelling on other public transport from outside the area, or going beyond Chatswood on the Sydney Trains network will still need to tap on and off.

“So please remember your Opal card and don’t forget, on Sunday’s customers can travel anywhere on the Opal network for no more than $2.70 for an adult,” Mr Constance said.
