WSABE WINNERS CELEBRATE

Give youth a chance says Garrard

By Di Bartok

THERE was a lot of back-slapping at the celebratory cocktail party for the WSABE winners and sponsors at the end of September - but also a serious message.

It came from Paul Garrard, in his last days as deputy lord mayor before the mayoral election, as he congratulated the 18 winners of  the prestigious awards run by Parramatta Chamber of Commerce.

“Congratulations to all of you and I hope you reap the benefits of your awards over the next year,” Clr Garrard told the business people at the Oatlands House reception.

“These awards are not conducted by popular choice - you are judged on how well you run your businesses. It might be good if I rubbed shoulders with you - it might rub off.

“But I urge you to consider giving a young person a start in life, considering the high level of youth unemployment in this area.”

Seriousness aside, the winners and sponsors enjoyed  the outstanding hospitality of Oatlands House and were entertained by young singers and musicians from Granville’s Delany College.

The evening ended with the cutting of a giant cake.

On hand to give congratulations were chamber president Roger Byrne, patron Alan Cadman and editor of Western Sydney Business Access Michael Walls. WSBA is the WSABE media partner.

Major sponsors were Commonwealth Bank and Parramatta Council and category sponsors were ServCorp, Dooleys, UWS, Etienne Lawyers, Parramatta College, Snap Printing,CFO On Call, Champion Legal.
