HILLS BUSINESSES STRIKE GOLD

Dedication pays off for WSABE winners
NIGEL RAYNER
IT was a picturesque setting for a night of celebration for more than 800 business leaders and professionals from across Western Sydney as they competed for honours in the 28th annual Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence.

The Rosehill Gardens Racecourse provided the perfect backdrop of racing carnival colour and excitement for what has become a premier event in Western Sydney’s business calendar.

These prestigious awards are due recognition of the time, effort and dedication of the businesspeople of Western Sydney as they contribute to the region’s rapid economic development and its role as the third largest economic region in the country.

The Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence (WSABE) were inaugurated in 1990 and have grown exponentially in both popularity and importance in that time.

The Awards recognise the gamut of business skills required to succeed in the current economic environment, including professional ethics and philosophy, innovation and creativity, leadership, social responsibility and sustainability, customer service and marketing.

Attending her third consecutive Awards ceremony, keynote speaker the Hon Gladys Berejiklian, Premier of New South Wales, spoke of the importance of the region’s contribution to the state’s economy, and its increasingly important role as a driving force in the national economy.

Also present was Luke Foley MP, Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Western Sydney, who spoke enthusiastically of the region’s importance and progress in the state’s future.

And the winners are…

The 2018 Commonwealth Bank Business of the Year Award was presented to Featherdale Wildlife Park for business excellence during the past financial year.

This year several members of the Sydney Hills Business Chamber were nominated as Award finalists, and it is particularly pleasing that three companies won Awards in significant categories from more than 300 entries in this year’s awards.
Graphic design and printing company Wild Fx enjoyed a spectacularly successful evening.

The company was the winner of the Award for Excellence in Customer Service, and Wild Fx business owner Phil Raish took out the Award for Outstanding Business Leader.

Momento Group won the Award for Excellence in Hospitality and Tourism, while Ronald McDonald House Westmead was the winner of the Award for Outstanding Employer of Choice.

We’re also delighted to announce that The Sydney Hills Business Chamber was the winner of the 2018 Local Chamber of Commerce Regional Winner for Western Sydney for the second time in a row. This is due recognition of the Chamber’s highly engaged local business leaders and entrepreneurs who have created such a vibrant business environment in the district.

As winners of these Awards, all these businesses are now finalists in the 2018 NSW Business Chamber State Business Awards.

The gala ceremony for these awards will be held at Luna Park on Friday, November 23.

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all three Hills Chamber businesses the very best in their endeavours at the State Business Awards, and their ongoing efforts to find new ways to improve their businesses. Thanks are due to the sponsors and Chambers for their ongoing contributions and assistance in making these awards such a success.
